About

Would you like to learn how to extend the growing season of your West Coast garden?

Would you even like to grow food all year around but don't have a greenhouse?

If so, this is your next workshop!

We are partnering with our gardening friends of the Wya Community Garden at the Junction to deliver this workshop on Cloches!

Cloches are structures that protect your plants from cold, wind and pests. Unlike greenhouses or polytunnels, they are inexpensive and easy to move around.

In this 2 hour workshop facilitated by Organic Master Gardener Connie Kuramoto you will learn:

  • Different easy and inexpensive methods of protecting overwintering crops to extend your growing season.
  • Vegetables that  are suitable for extending your growing season into the fall, winter, and even to the following spring.
  • How to manage your extended season garden.
  • How to build good soil to help get your crops through the winter.

We will meet at 10am for an introduction and tour of the Wya Community Garden. You'll get to know the history of these gardens and see all the incredible things they've been doing there over the years, and also check out their new greenhouse!

After this, the workshop will run from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

Come dress for the weather, and remember to bring your refillable water bottle!

This workshop is limited to 10 participants so don't hesitate to reserve your spot.

For any further questions, don't hesitate to contact our program coordinator Beatriz at beatriz@tofinocommunityfoodinitiative.com

*Location Details* WYA Junction Garden is across from the Tourism Info Centre at the junction (next to JX campground and SunRay Food Truck).
