About
Come learn to propagate your own plants by taking hardwood cuttings. These cuttings are taken on dormant trees and shrubs.
Plants that propagate well from this method include grapes, blueberries, spring flowering shrubs, fuchsia, roses, and broadleaf evergreens like camellia and laurel.
We will provide some plant material but feel free to bring your own to try. Bring secateurs if you have them. We will provide razor knives, containers, rooting media, and powder so you can bring home a few containers of propagated cuttings for you to grow. This is a hands on workshop and we may be spending some time outside so dress for the weather please!
Connie Kuramoto has been teaching Horticulture for over thirty years. She has taught for Vancouver Island University, North Island College, Humber College, and Gaia College, and has given countless talks and workshops throughout Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. Connie has always been outspoken concerning the ecological impacts of Agriculture and Horticulture, and has always searched out the most environmentally sound options for her teaching agenda as well as her consulting business, Gardens on the Go. Connie manages her own year round food garden on parts of her one half acre yard, and eats something from her garden every day of the year. She hopes to finish getting rid of her lawn this year by replanting it with more food and pollinator plants.
